Brilliant or Baffling: Napping Pods

Some companies, including Google and W Hotels, are beginning to capitalize on the benefits of power naps by investing in EnergyPods. It's no secret that napping can increase productivity, and a NASA study shows that a 26-minute nap can increase performance by 34 percent.

The EnergyPod comes with a built-in music player and has a "gentle waking" system that uses a combination of lights and vibration. What do you think?

My problem is that if I nap, it's going to have to be about an hour. It takes me at least 15 minutes just to get myself to fall asleep!

I would do this all the time back in my work....when we'd have to pull a shift from like 6pm to 2am, then turn around and be there in the morning for another shift at 8am to 4pm, then do it all again (have to love halloween horror nights!) but during a break or in between shifts, we'd try and take like a 15-30 min power nap, and it'd be great, but we'd like slunk over the desks or even pull out a long row of chairs and lay out on them. It's really helpful if you live far from work and have to pull a double, or if you just want to snooze a bit on your break, why not!

My last job had a room where we could nap if we had some time off, or where we could lie down during a break. We didn't have anything as cool as this, but we had two rooms - one with a couch and a chaise (a pretty big room), and another with more comfortable seating and online access for personal use.

They were big believers in the personal happiness of their employees, as long as you weren't trying to be happy while you were working. Most of us weren't, so sadly, they accomplished this quite well. Sad

Cool! I love it! I try to take power naps whenever I get the chance and this would be an awesome thing at a workplace.

It's an especially great idea for people that have to work long hours at the office. A coworker and I had two jobs and she would often go into one of the conference rooms to take a quick nap. Otherwise, I don't think it's really necessary for my job.

I am not someone that can take a 26 minute nap. It takes me forever to fall asleep. It would be weird to see that in a work office...what if people snored?

I think these would also be perfect in university libraries, public libraries, and bookstores. It'd be nice to take a quick snooze, then get back to studying/reading.

I think it's a great idea! I mean, they wouldn't do it if it was going to hurt their business- it increases productivity. But, yeah, I would love to take a little nap at work.

I would LOVE one of these at work. My naptime clock kicks in at around 1:30 and doesn't stop making me drowsy until about 3!

I get super drowsy in the afternoons, but if I really can't do quick cat naps ... has to be between 1-2 hours!

takes me forever to fall asleep, but i still think i could benefit from the relaxation and down-time with these!

i also love the whole pod-hotel concept at airports that YOTEL has started... extra sleep is underrated!!

i think power naps at work are a great idea. i spend the first hour after lunch so sluggish, i might as well be napping anyway.

I guess it would depend on what kind of mood you're in when you wake up from a sleep. I couldn't do this. I'm a monster when I wake up and naps just do me in. If I go to sleep during the day, it's all over.

We had a "quiet room" at one of my previous jobs and a lot of people used it and loved. I like the concept, and think it could work for those who can take a power nap and wake up energized.

i would totally take advantage of a power nap if my employer would spring for one of those. especially after lunch or about 3pm. build naptime into the work day. =)
